Official Series Names Changes to “Intelligentsia Cup Prairie State Cycling Series”
May 16, 2013 – The promoter of the Prairie State Cycling Series, which will feature eight days of competitive cycling over 10 days, July 12-21, 2013, has announced Chicago-based Intelligentsia Coffee as the series title sponsor. The Chicago metro racing series, which will include four dates on the USA Cycling National Criterium Calendar (NCC), is also officially renamed as “Intelligentsia Cup Prairie State Cycling Series”.
“Coffee and cycling are inextricably linked,” said Doug Zell, Intelligentsia Coffee Founder and President. “Most training rides start and end at a coffee bar. We’re stoked to be a part of an epic series incorporating the urban heart of Chicago as well as surrounding suburbs.”
The inaugural Intelligentsia Cup Prairie State Cycling Series has announced venues in the Illinois communities of Chicago, Crystal Lake, Beverly, Elmhurst, Lake Bluff and St. Charles. The series will also feature races in the Wisconsin communities of Kenosha and Sharon. High-energy Pro and amateur racing excitement will be complemented by healthy family fun, kids’ activities, a lifestyle expo area, food and beverage, and more.
Additionally, the Intelligentsia Cup will benefit World Bicycle Relief, a non-profit organization transforming individuals and their communities through The Power of Bicycles. Riders will have the opportunity to contribute to the World Bicycle Relief during online registration. Event promoter, Prairie State Cycling Series, LLC, will match the collective donation, up to $5,000.
“Intelligentsia saw this as an opportunity to contribute to the creation of a race series unlike any other in the country,” said Zell. “The character of a cyclist is built upon self-reliance and hard work. We can take that motivation to do what we love – race – and benefit others around the globe.”
Intelligentsia Coffee and World Bicycle Relief will be on-site at the Intelligentsia Cup races sharing their respective initiatives with racers and spectators.
Continued Zell, “World Bicycle Relief has demonstrated how the bicycle can transform the world. In our Intelligentsia travels, we’ve witnessed first-hand how one bicycle in Africa can have a profound effect on the local economy. Powerful.”
