“Fyxation Open” Fixed Gear Criterium Added To Racing Docket
Chicago – Fyxation, a leading manufacturer of urban bicycles, and the Intelligentsia Cup, the premiere bicycle racing series in Chicagoland, announced today the first annual Fyxation Open fixed gear criterium race on July 26 as part of the Chicago Criterium event of the Intelligentsia Cup Prairie State Cycling Series.
The Fyxation Open will be held on the Chicago Criterium race course in the heart of downtown Chicago between the pro women and pro men main events. This will be a true fixed gear criterium and only racers riding fixed gear track style bikes with drop bars and no freewheel or brakes will be eligible to compete. The field limit is set at 75 riders and will be available on a first come/first served basis.
Riders will be eligible to win over $1500 in cash, prizes and race primes from Fyxation and a host of other sponsors including Chrome Industries, All City Cycles, Nutcase and ABUS.
“The Intelligentsia Cup is excited to bring fixed gear racing back to Chicagoland with the first ever Fyxation Open race as a part of the Chicago Criterium.” said Intelligentsia Cup co-founder and former U.S. professional criterium champion Tom Schuler. “Back in the day, fixed gear road racing was a bike racing staple with classic events like the 50 mile Elgin to Chicago race. We are excited to host this high-energy form of bike racing, once again reminding us that everything old is new again.”
Nick Ginster, co-founder and general manager of Fyxation said, “Partnering with Tom Schuler and his team at the Intelligentsia Cup has been a great experience and we’re confident the event will be a huge success. Not only are the race organizers great at handling race logistics, but being able to work side by side with professional cyclists and a national cycling champion has added a great rider’s perspective when planning the Fyxation Open.”
