The South Chicago Bike Race and the Slow Roll Chicago community bike ride join forces to promote a new event through the South Chicago Community on July 18th

Posted on July 15, 2015May 3, 2017

Slow Roll ChicagoChicago, IL – July 15, 2015 – The Intelligentsia Cup powered by SRAM series added a new race this year – the South Chicago Bike Race presented by Ald. Susan Sadlowski Garza – in order to bring a new community event to South Chicago and also highlight the South Chicago Velodrome Association. Since then Slow Roll Chicago joined the effort by organizing a ride through the South Chicago neighborhood ending at the race event, with Ald. Sadlowski Garza joining the ride.

“This community bicycle ride is intended to promote the beauty of the Southeast side of Chicago and the wonderful work being done at the South Chicago Velodrome,” said Olatunji Oboi Reed, Co-founder of Slow Roll Chicago.

“This special ride will be held in conjunction with the Intelligentsia Cup race series, held near the start of our community bike ride. We look forward to working with our partners to bring more bicycle love to the Southeast Side of Chicago, inspiring more people to be excited about bicycles and the activity of cycling.”

In addition to the Slow Roll ride, former national champion Rahsaan Bahati will make an appearance by the South Chicago Velodrome at 2:00 p.m. Bicycle racing will run all day just east of the velodrome on 87th street at the former US Steel site – beginning with amateurs in the morning and concluding with professional men and women in the early evening.

“One of the goals of the Intelligentsia Cup powered by SRAM series is to increase all types of bicycle participation around all the neighborhoods of the city of Chicago,” said series partner Tom Schuler. “We hope having this race in South Chicago will help the efforts to publicize the velodrome there as well as give the neighborhood an exciting summer event for the entire family.”
